In his annual state of the city address Fairhope's mayor says they have some challenges ahead.

“I think it's going to make us stronger and better because we have to look at our sales and expenses even closer,” said Mayor Tim Kant after his address. He told the audience that the city's government needs to narrow its focus and not try to fund everything.

Well government doesn't take care of that in Fairhope, we will support you with open arms and proclamations, but we're not going to support it financially,” says the Mayor. The address also gave good news to some businesses owners like Stephanie reeves, as the mayor talked down the idea of a two percent local sales tax.

“I've had customers in here earlier today comment on how low our sales tax is and I think that's an advantage to shopping here,” says Reeves.
