Azalea Trail Run Pushes On Despite Weather

It was only delayed, much to the delight of many runners.

The rain didn't stop runners from pounding the pavement, during the 32nd annual Azalea Trail Run. The race start time was delayed an hour and a half. It began at 9:30 rather than 8 am. Still, more than 5,000 runners crossed the finish line, as part of the 10k, or the one mile fun run. The race winds through parts of downtown and midtown Mobile, and celebrates the beautiful azaleas that are in bloom right now. Runners we spoke to say the storms made getting to the race a challenge in and of itself.

“It was pretty tough, you couldn't see five feet in front of the car,” says Gary Wilkinson. He says he came from New Orleans for the race. The winner was Moroccan Rindouane Haroufi. Organizers say his time of 28 minutes and 15 seconds was the exact same first place finish time as last year. You can get more information on the race here.
