Elsanor Hit Hard By Severe Weather

Small community in Central Baldwin County 'devastated' by early morning storm system

People living in Elsanor in Central Baldwin County are still trying to clean-up and recover following Friday morning's severe weather. A nasty storm system hit the community hard just before daybreak, destroying houses, snapping trees and power lines, flipping mobile homes and leaving trails of debris across the battered, Baldwin County countryside.

"It sounded like hail hitting the window," says Pep Morrow. Morrow lives on Newport Road near Highway 90. Strong winds blew off her roof and knocked down the front wall of her house. "We just thank God that we all got out without a scratch."

Near the elementary school, a tree snapped and fell on Jeannie Jones' mobile home.

"This was worse than Hurricane Ivan."

And off County Road 87 at the Ponderosa R-V Park, fierce winds flipped over two mobile homes and rolled them several times. At least three people, including a small child, were hurt.
