Cop Who Faked His Disappearance Pleads Guilty

Sgt. Faron White faked his abduction and took off to Las Vegas with $60,000 he stole from his department.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A former north Alabama police officer
accused of faking his abduction and fleeing to Las Vegas with some
$60,000 stolen from his department has pleaded guilty to a federal
theft charge.
Former Decatur police Sgt. Faron White, who initially pleaded
not guilty, changed the plea Wednesday at a hearing in federal
court in Huntsville. His accomplice, former police volunteer Sarah
Richardson, also pleaded guilty to helping White stage his
disappearance.
Both are to be sentenced July 14.
U.S. District Judge C. Lynwood Smith Jr. told White he could get
up to 10 years in prison, fined $250,000 and ordered to repay
$60,000 to the Decatur police department. Richardson could get a
maximum of five years and $125,000 fine.
