300 Facing Pink Slips at Alabama Condom Plant

»  Comments | Post a Comment

EUFAULA, Ala. (AP) - An executive at a Eufaula-based condom
manufacturer said about 300 workers could lose their jobs because
the federal government has decided to outsource condom
manufacturing.
Lawrence Povlacs, CEO and President of Alatech Healthcare,
confirmed Tuesday workers soon could receive pink-slips after the
U.S. Agency for International Development announced plans to shift
production of condoms to firms based outside the U.S., including
China.
Povlacs said the agency's decision contradicts the federal
stimulus package designed to create jobs in the U.S.
The USAID purchases the condoms for its AIDS prevention programs
in poor countries.
