A state record-setting blue catfish caught
by a 10-year-old boy on the Mississippi River has been donated to
the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson.
Dakota Hinson caught the 95-pound fish last week and it was
weighed on a scale certified by the Mississippi Department of
Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
Hinson was fishing with his cousin and a family friend on the
Mississippi River south of Natchez when he thought he had caught
his line on a log. But the log turned out to be the biggest fish
anyone on the boat had ever seen.
Hinson said it took about 20 minutes to haul in the fish, which
is 2 pounds heavier than the previous record set in 1997.
