Mobile County has a new and much larger animal shelter.

The ribbon cutting happened Tuesday morning at the new facility on Howells Ferry Road in West Mobile. The old animal shelter was leased from the City of Prichard and could only hold 100 animals.

The new $2 million shelter is over 10,000 square feet and can hold 300 animals.

"We have been trying to get this facility built since (Hurricane) Katrina," said Mobile County Commissioner Mike Dean "We're very excited today. We have the state of the art animal shelter for the whole Mobile County."

The county also launched a new website fto go along with it's new animal shelter. At mobilecountyanimals.com, you can see pictures of pets ready for adoption.
