Medical Marijuana

The Obama administration is changing federal
policy toward medical marijuana.
In contrast to the practice during the Bush administration,
federal agents will target marijuana distributors only when they
violate both federal and state law. The old policy targeted
dispensaries in California even though they are legal under state
law.
Attorney General Eric Holder outlined the new policy today in a
session with reporters.
The sale of marijuana even for medical purposes is against
federal law. And Holder says agents will still be going after
anybody who tries to use state medical marijuana laws as a cover
for other illegal activity.
Medical marijuana is now legal in 13 states.
Advocates in California welcome the policy change but say
they're concerned about cases already in court.
