If the Senior Bowl did leave Mobile, what would that mean to the area economy?
Mike Lee, chairman of the board of the Mobile Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, said, "(the game) brings tourists to the city. It brings NFL scouts and teams. It brings the players and the players' families and this means something to the city in terms of room nights for the hotels, restaurants, and visits to our attractions."
Senior Bowl players stay at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel in downtown Mobile.
Veet's Bar and Grill is across the street.
Gina Previto, the owner of Veet's, said, "They've (the Senior Bowl) got the scouts, they've got the coaches, they've got the players. And everybody wants to come down and see them. They know they hang out downtown".
Serda's Coffee Company is down the street from the hotel.
Owner John Serda said, "This is our first year. We saw our sales skyrocket during that week and we're looking for next year."
City Council Member Reggie Copeland said the Senior Bowl brings other benefits many people don't know about.
Copeland said, "The proceeds from a lot of the game go to outfitting these young players in the municipal park football leagues and people don't realize that. That's how it started many years ago."
