White House Turning Green Today

»  Comments | Post a Comment

WASHINGTON (AP) - They haven't dyed the Potomac River green, but
the Obamas are bringing a splash of their hometown St. Patrick's
Day celebrations to the White House.
The fountains on the north and south lawns have been dyed green
to mark the national holiday of Ireland. Spokeswoman Katie
McCormick Lelyveld says first lady Michelle Obama came up with the
idea to bring "a little piece of home" for their new home.
Chicago marks St. Patrick's Day by dyeing its river green.
Lelyveld says it's the first time the fountains have gone green.
And they'll remain that way until the dye runs out.
President Barack Obama is marking the holiday by meeting with
Irish leaders and attending St. Patrick's Day events in the White
House and on Capitol Hill.
