Before hitting the beach, you have to pick up the keys to the condo.
“We actually just got a really good deal on this condo so it was too good to pass up,” says Texas college student Travis Kennedy. He says this is his first spring break on the Gulf Coast, and the price was right.
“Versus going to like South Padre, hundreds of dollars difference, much cheaper,” says Kennedy. Officials at Gulf Shores Rentals say business is on par with last year's spring break but the economy is making some places offer decent deals.
“There's a lot of competition out here,” says rental manager Travis Monroe. “There's probably another 2000 units here on the Gulf Coast and to stay competitive we've got to offer those deals.”
While some spring breakers are looking for bargains, others are still just looking for a good time.
“We're very familiar with the area we've been coming here for a very long time it's lots of fun, lots of things to do, we just really enjoy coming this way,” says spring breaker Katie Norris. She is wrapping up her spring break at LuLu's. The popular waterfront restaurant sees business double during spring break compared to the off season.
“It is the kickoff of our season we look forward to Mardi Gras and then spring break coming and it's back to business for the summer and good seasons,” says assistant general manager Nancy Vawynan.
