PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Robbie Maxwell's campaign took an
unexpected turn when no one challenged him for the top job in
Pascagoula.
The Pascagoula native won't succeed Mayor Matthew Avara until
July but he is using the time to connect with residents and
business owners to listen to their needs, ideas and complaints.
Maxwell is paring down his business consultant firm to devote
more time to the city.
He has accepted Avara's invitation to attend a City Council
meeting and the two have talked several times since the qualifying
period closed earlier this month.
At the top of Maxwell's to-do list is the riverfront
redevelopment plan, which is a mixed-use commercial and residential
development with hotels, shopping areas, restaurants, and
condominiums, in addition to a riverwalk.
