Fire Chief Arrested On DUI Charges

Police arrested Mobile Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Fred Sims on Saturday.

5:20 p.m.
- Sims backed into an RV on Saint Joseph Street in downtown Mobile, damaging the RV’s headlight and bumper
- The owner of the RV was inside when it happened and he called police.
- Sims took a field sobriety test and the breathalyzer. His BAC was .18

1:54 p.m.
Mobile Police say they will not release any information about Sims' arrest.

12:28 p.m.
A Mobile fire chief is in hot water with the department and police.

Police arrested Mobile Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Fred Sims Saturday on drunk driving charges.

Police have not yet released details on the arrest, but Mobile Fire Rescue spokesman Steve Huffman said Sims is currently on leave while the department investigates the circumstances that lead to his DUI arrest.

Sims was released early Sunday morning after posting a $1,000 bond.
