Bridge Tragedy Trial Gets Underway

The Lam Luong capital murder trial started Monday morning with a bomb shell.

Prosecutors say the Irvington father threw his four young kids off the Dauphin Island Bridge last year so he could see the look on his wife's face.

That was just one of the revelations made during opening arguments. Prosecutors also said Luong was on crack and that he told investigators that they charge him "if" they found the bodies.

Luong's attorney said this is an unusual trial and he won't argue with most of the state's case. But he asked jurors to hear this case with an open mind and come to their own conclusions.

Kieu Phan, the children's mother, started crying during opening statements. She is scheduled to testify later today, along with the childrens' grandmother and aunt, and several police officers.
