BALLPLAY, Ala. (AP) - An early morning fire has left five
members of a family dead at a mobile home in rural Etowah County.
Ragan Ingram, a spokesman for the state fire marshal's office,
said investigators were at the scene Friday trying to determine how
it started.
He said a couple and their three children were killed in the
fire. Ingram said it occurred in the Ballplay community near the
Cherokee County line, about 10 miles east of Gadsden.
Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin told The Gadsden Times that
the blaze, which erupted at about 6 a.m. Friday, burned the mobile
home to the ground.
The victims' names were being withheld until relatives could be
notified.
