MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State transportation officials have
reopened interstate rest areas on Interstate 65 in Chilton County
and they anticipate opening the Interstate 10 welcome center in
Baldwin County soon.
Both locations were closed Tuesday because a suspicious
substance was found in soap dispensers at the I-10 welcome center
and the northbound rest area in Chilton County.
Transportation spokesman Tony Harris says tests revealed the
substance in Chilton County was soap, but not the normal soap used
in restroom dispensers. Department officials are checking whether a
product labeling mistake resulted in different soap being used.
Harris says the Department of Transportation is awaiting results
on the substance found in Baldwin County.
