The House and Senate Banking and Insurance committees will meet in a joint session Wednesday morning to take up a series of insurance reform bills aimed at providing relief to Gulf Coast homeowners.

State Sen. Ben Brooks and Sen. Trip Pittman are two of the lead sponsors of the bills. They say it is so important for residents to attend the hearing, they're willing to pay for the trip. Brooks and Pittman have rented a charter bus to transport Gulf Coast homeowners to Montgomery.

The bus will depart from the Hardee's fast food restaraunt at the Loxely exit off Interstate 10 at 5:30 a.m..

"The rest of the state has the impression anyone living south of I-10 is a rich person who has chosen to live in the way of a hurricane, but that's not true," says Michelle Kurtz, a community organizer who plans to make the trip tomorrow.

Mary Forrester, a Daphne homeowner who lost her insurance twice in one year, will also make the trip, though not on the bus.

"People need to know they can't just sit back and think things are going to change," says Forrester.

The hearing starts at 10 a.m. on the house floor at the state capitol.

To reserve one of the 50 seats on the charter bus contact Michelle at 251-895-3902.
