A slumping economy means more money for one Gulf Coast School System.
Bill Silver the President of the Saraland School System says construction on the new 30 million dollar high school has not been affected. He says funds were already set aside for the project.
In fact, Silver tells News Five a lack of construction work in the area has given them an advantage when negotiating contractors.
The school system says so far they have saved around $800,000 on construction costs.
While the project has created more construction jobs, the school system is focused on filling one of their own.
School officials plan to select a new superintendent in the next few weeks.
"We're looking for someone whose had school construction experience, elementary, middle school and high school experience. So we're looking for a superintendent who is a superintendent or has been a superintendent,"Said Silver.
School officials plan to hold a public meeting with the candidates before selecting a new superintendent. The meeting will take place March 19th at 6 pm at the Saraland Chamber of Commerce.
Saraland's new high school is scheduled to open in January of next year.
