A four year old child was struck and killed around 7:00 p.m. this evening (03/09/09) on US 98 near County Road 27 in the Barnwell community of Baldwin County. The child, William Austin Wood, of Foley, was apparently playing near the edge of the road and had walked into the roadway to retrieve an errant skateboard. A westbound 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by John Michael Burnette, 41, of Fairhope, was unable to stop before striking the child. The child was transported to Thomas Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Neither alcohol nor speed are believed to have contributed to the incident and no charges have been filed. The incident occurred at or very near sunset.

A tragic accident to report out of south Baldwin County.
A 4 year old boy was killed Monday night in the Barnwell community. It's south of Fairhope.
A fire chief on the scene tells News 5 that a pick up truck hit the boy on Highway 98.
Alabama State troopers are working the case. Fairhope police helped to re-route traffic.
According to state troopers, this is the fourth fatality in one day.
Two men from Creola died early morning on Interstate 10. Troopers say Jeremy Daniel Berryhill, 24, of Creola, lost control of the vehicle, over-corrected and left the roadway. It happened on Interstate 10 near McDonald Road around 12:30 a.m. The blazer went into a ditch and overturned causing Berryhill and a passenger, Thomas Wayne Stoker Jr., 45, of Creola, to be ejected. Neither was wearing a seatbelt. Troopers say alcohol is suspected to have been involved in the crash.
A Theodore man was also killed on Bellingrath Road early Monday morning when his truck crashed into a concrete culvert. It happened on Bellingrath Road near Laurendine Road. The driver, Joe Frank Wilson Jr, 28, of Theodore, lost control of his vehicle.
