TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama receiver Julio Jones has a new
title: Senator.
The popular freshman won a seat on the Student Government
Association's senate through write-in votes. He didn't campaign but
accepted the position when told of his win, said Kelli Knox-Hall of
the university's Elections Board.
She said Jones received votes for every office and most senate
seats.
Jones was the Crimson Tide's top recruit last year and earned
All-Southeastern Conference honors in his first season. His
popularity might have slipped in one regard.
Jones received only nine votes for SGA president. That's eight
fewer than he received a year ago - before graduating from Foley
High School. He did outpoll coach Nick Saban, who received a mere
six write-in votes.
