More Americans Say They Have No Religion

Is Christianity on the decline in America?

UNDATED (AP) - A wide-ranging study on American religious life
suggests that the percentage of Christians in the nation has
declined. And more people say they have no religion at all.
The American Religious Identification Survey reports that more
than three-fourths of U.S. adults call themselves Christians -- a
shrinking percentage owing to sharp declines among mainline
Protestants.
But more than one-third of American adults identify themselves
as evangelical or born-again.
Fifteen percent of respondents said they had no religion -- a
category that increased in every state.
The researchers say their margin of error is plus or minus
one-half of one percent.
