MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A Mississippi man convicted of driving to
Alabama in search of sex with a minor has been sentenced to 10
years in prison.
A federal jury found Mitchell Shane Hooks guilty in November of
traveling to have sex with a child, as well as using a computer to
entice a child. The enticement charge carried a mandatory minimum
sentence of 10 years.
Defense attorney Richard Shields said Friday he would appeal.
Testimony from the trial indicated that Hooks, a former Marine,
thought he had met a 13-year-old Daphne girl in an online chat
room. Instead, the 35-year-old Petal, Miss., man was communicating
with an undercover law enforcement officer.
