Gang Graffiti In Foley

Gang Graffiti In Foley

Police say a bored teenager caused major vandalism damage when he tagged and spray-painted gang graffiti at a Foley public housing community

People living in the Aaronville community woke up Monday morning to a huge mess! Homes, buildings, sidewalks and street signs were tagged with gang graffiti.

"That's sad," says Celastine Knight. "It's pitiful, it doesn't make sense. They're trying to give these people a nice place to live and whoever's doing this is messing it up for the good people in the neighborhood."

The damage was widespread and included obscene threats against the police department. Just recently, Foley's chief of police opened a new precinct in Aaronville near the location of the graffiti tagging and vandalism.

"They hate to see this in their own backyard," says Lt. Thurston Bullock with the Foley Police Dept. "And we hate to see it, too and we're going to do what we can to solve this case."

Late Monday afternoon, police say a 15-year old boy admitted to the vandalism. The teen will be charged with criminal mischief. The boy told police he was bored and went to Wal-mart and bought several cans of spray-paint. More arrests are likely.

"We can't take the chance that he's a "wanna be" gang member," says Lt. Bullock. "Wanna-be's sometimes become "gonna-be's" and could lead them to more crime which we won't tolerate."
