MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Court officials have begun screening
potential jurors for the trial of 38-year-old Lam Luong, who has
pleaded guilty to capital murder charges for tossing his four
children off a coastal bridge to their deaths.
Luong, a Vietnamese refugee, pleaded guilty Thursday to the Jan.
7, 2008 murders, but a jury still must be seated to recommend a
penalty of life in prison without parole or death.
Mobile County Circuit Judge Charles Graddick is not bound by the
jury's recommended penalty.
Court officials said it could take up to a week to complete jury
screening that began Monday.
