GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge has postponed the trial
of Gulfport Mayor Brent Warr and his wife, giving them more time to
prepare against charges of Hurricane Katrina fraud.
Brent and Laura Warr have pleaded not guilty to charges in a
16-count federal indictment.
They were scheduled for trial April 6, but requested a delay so
their attorneys could review thousands of documents in the case.
U.S. District Judge Walter J. Gex III agreed Thursday to put the
trial off until Sept. 8.
The Warrs are accused of seeking a homeowners assistance grant
for a beachfront home they owned but did not live in and making
false claims to their insurance company.
Warr is the highest-ranking official charged with fraud related
to the 2005 storm.
