Abortion Clinic Owner Throws Live Baby Away

MIAMI (AP) - Authorities have arrested the owner of a Miami-area
abortion clinic who allegedly delivered a live baby and threw her
away.
Belkis Gonzalez was charged Tuesday with practicing medicine
without a license and tampering with evidence. If found guilty, the
43-year-old faces up to 15 years in prison.
The teenage mother has sued, saying Gonzalez scooped the baby,
placenta and afterbirth into a biohazard bag and threw it out. The
clinic's doctor was not around.
Miami-Dade State Attorney spokesman Ed Griffith says authorities
were unable to definitively determine the cause of death - and
Gonzalez's role in it - because the baby's body had decomposed by
the time it was found eight days later.
Gonzalez is being held on $50,000 bond. A hearing is scheduled
for Wednesday.
