CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - The Coast Guard says there is still no sign of the fishing boat carrying NFL players Corey Smith and Marquis Cooper and two other men, a day after they were reported missing.
A Coast Guard spokeswoman says rescuers have now searched 16,000
square miles off Florida's Gulf Coast.
The friends left on a fishing trip early Saturday morning and
were expected home by early evening. One of the men's relatives
reported them missing on Sunday, and the Coast Guard began
searching a 750-square mile area west of Clearwater Pass.
Authorities said high seas and strong winds were hampering their
search.
Cooper is an Oakland Raiders linebacker. Smith is a Detroit
Lions free-agent defensive end. William Bleakley and Nick Schuyler,
the other men on board, are both former University of South Florida
players.
