MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman has
asked for a new trial on bribery and other government corruption
charges.
Siegelman claims in the motion filed late Monday that the
government's key witness at his 2006 trial was heavily coached by prosecutors and FBI agents. Siegelman's motion cites statements made by his former aide, Nick Bailey, that prosecutors and agents had him write out some of his testimony.
Siegelman and former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy were
convicted of bribery and other charges in the 2006 trial. Scrushy
filed a similar new trial motion Friday.
