Iranians in our area are standing with the protesters overseas. A few local Iranians in Baldwin County were busy today getting ready for a demonstration later this week. They were making signs in support of efforts to bring more freedom and change to the Islamic state. Organizers say they hope the protests in Iran will help change the hard line government there.
“You know the government talking about being a republic but really how can you be a republic government while the people you represent can't speak of their mind,” says Iran native Ebrahim. The participants in this story asked us not to use their last names or post video to the web. They were concerned about harassment from the Iranian government if they travelled home.
Mobile area Iranians are planning a demonstration Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 from 11 am to 1 pm. It'll be at Memorial Park near the cannon.
