Curtain Call For Birmingham's City Stages

The three-day festival lost more than $1 million this year and the foundation that put it on is going out of business.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham's City Stages music festival
is history.
Once considered Alabama's premier music event, the three-day
festival ended last weekend with a debt of more than $1 million. So
organizers say City Stages won't be back in 2010, and the
foundation that put it on is going out of business.
In a statement, organizers called the foundation "irretrievably
insolvent" and said City Stages could not pay its expenses for
this year.
They blamed the economy, hot weather, low ticket sales and other
factors for the demise of the event.
City Stages has been held annually since 1989.
