Somebody's been tearing into this long-dead air conditioning unit. Church members say they can't take much more of this. It started less than a month ago when thieves took off with their cooling system hardware. We talked to church members again today, Thursday, June 25, 2009. The church was hit again on June 15th, this time they say Prichard Police didn't dust for prints.
“He said he could not get the finger prints because we didn't have a suspect,” says Pastor Benita Harris. The Pastor says she was told that, since they had no suspect, they couldn't afford to take a finger print analysis.
“It really just blew me away because we're important, we're a citizen here get the finger prints, it might be the guy you captured not long ago,” says the Pastor. A Prichard Police spokesman says they couldn't get good prints from the AC because it was too dusty and there were no visible prints. They say they have the money and always look for fingerprints as part of regular procedure and will even dust when asked. The lack of an air conditioning has created new challenges for this church and the congregation is coming up with solutions as they try to adapt.
They've taken service outside some Sundays to escape the ever hotter conditions indoors.
“I’m just hoping, and asking people to pray with us that this guy will be caught,” says the Pastor. Church members are planning a variety of fundraisers to help get the $20,000 needed for a new air conditioning. If you can help, the Pastor would like to hear from you, her number is 251-367-3095. The church is taking orders for its BBQ fundraiser through up through tomorrow.
