Major Intersection Gets Makeover

Phil Broadus could not think of a better location for business than the corner of Old Shell and McGregor.
"Sometimes you got to go with your gut and as we cruised through and found this location we said this is us,"Said Broadus who is holding a Grand Opening for Five Guys Burgers this weekend.

While he looks forward to a Grand Opening this weekend, the Village of Springhill has their own project in the works.
"We are putting in new crosswalks, new islands and new traffic poles and new traffic signals at the intersection of Old Shell Road and McGregor,"Said Mobile City Councilwoman Gina Gregory.

To get things done the city will close off four portions of the intersection during different times for two weeks. Gregory admits traffic will be a problem, but she says businesses are well aware.

"We have already for the last month or so held community meetings sent letters to all the businesses in the area, I have used the city alert to telephone messages telling people what's going on,"Said Gregory.
The closures will be broken up in four phases. The first closure will be along the Westbound lane of Old Shell Road, from Friday at 7pm until 5am Monday June 29th.

The city says weather permitting, the project will be complete by July 13th. All businesses in the area will remain open.
