The investigation into a fire that forced hundreds of people in Bayou La Batre to evacuate has taken a criminal turn.

The fire was originally started Tuesday morning as a controlled burn. Late that evening, things got out of control.

The city asked 400 to 500 People to evacuate their homes. During that evacuation, police believe a home on Downey Street was intentionally set on fire.

As of Noon on Wednesday, the state forestry service was still working to contain hot spots. People were allowed to return home before 10 pm Tuesday.
