Mobile Police are trying to create safe shopping zones. It's part of the port city's "Weed and seed Program." Officers were pointing out ways local businesses can deter crime in their communities. Officers say windows with less signs and clear views of the street can help keep a both shoppers and employees safer. Mobile Police say they offer this service to any businesses that want an evaluation. They say it helps encourage a sense of security.

“They want their customers to feel comfortable when they come shop at their business and if they don't feel comfortable they may want to go somewhere else, we want them to shop in their own neighborhood area,” says Lt. Keith Stallings. Mobile Police say the program helps distressed neighborhoods. For more information you can call 208-1936. Mobile Police will also hold a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Training and Certification Conference and Workshop. That’ll be June 22nd through the 24th. The cost is $50.
