A Semmes man is accused of stealing $40,000 worth of merchandise from a Home Depot on Schillinger Road.

Mobile police say Paul Gwin, 51, stole everything from a hammer and nails to a lawn mower. Gwin, who worked as a delivery truck driver for the home improvement store, stole the merchandise from the truck and took it to his home on Coleman Dairy Road, according to police.

"We obtained various items that were taken over the course of a year," says Cpl. Charles Bagsby, referring to a search of Gwin's home.

Gwin, who investigators believe was stealing from the store for more than a year, was arrested Tuesday after the store's management called police to report the thefts. Gwin is charged with Theft of Property. He is out of jail on a $7,500 bond.
