Storage Facilty Burns, Portion of Azalea Road Closed

5:45 p.m.
- One lane of Azalea Road is reopen. Mobile Fire-Rescue says the other will reopen shortly after 6:00 p.m.

1:24 p.m.
- Mobile Fire-Rescue now says Azalea Road from Cottage Hill to Village Green Drive won't reopen until at least 8:00 p.m.

10:56 a.m.
- The fire caused an estimated million dollars in damage.
- Mobile Fire-Rescue is advising Public Storage customers not to come out to the storage facility until tomorrow.

Mobile Fire Rescue PIO Steve Huffman says Azalea Road from Cottage Hill north to Village Green Drive is expected to stay closed until at least noon Tuesday while crews continue working on the fire that damaged a storage facility.

Mobile Fire Rescue PIO Steve Huffman says Azalea Road from Cottage Hill north to Village Green Drive is closed while crews continue working that storage unit fire. The road is expected to stay closed until well after morning rush hour. Drivers are advised to found an alternate route.

Mobile Fire crews have been rotating out throughout the night as they continue to fight this fire.

10:54 p.m.
A fire started at the Public Storage building on Azalea Road Monday around 9:45 p.m. It was at least a two alarm fire. Several trucks and crews responded to the scene. News 5 spoke with the operator of the storage unit off camera. He and his wife were able to make it out safely. He believes the fire started in the climate controlled portion of the building. They live at an apartment on site. They didn't make it out with much. Smoke could be seen for miles. The building was smoldering. Fire crews had to block off Azaela Road to run water hoses.
