Fairhope Mayor Tim Kant holds press conference to talk about city's financial situation

Tax revenue in Fairhope is down nearly five percent this year, but city leaders say communities in other parts of the state are struggling even more. To reassure both business owners and homeowners, Mayor Tim Kant called a press conference at City Hall to talk about the city's financial situation.

"The city is not bankrupt," says Kant. "The city is in great shape and we're going to continue to provide the great services you see."

Kant, along with several department heads and team leaders from the finance department, told a small crowd times are tough along the Eastern Shore, but not as bad as they could be.

"Even the city of Mobile, Mayor Sam Jones I think, told all their managers to cut ten percent so we're doing the same thing."

Kant did end the press conference on a positive note. The mayor says several new construction projects are underway, which will help pump new life into the city's sluggish economy.
