MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge in Mobile has sentenced a
39-year-old man who made multiple bomb threats in Tillman's Corner
last year to nearly four years in prison.
Back in March of last year, prosectuors had said they found a bomb and
other explosives in Thompson's hotel room at the Red Roof Inn in Tillman's
Corner. That was after he made the bomb threat forcing many guests to
evacuate and a local hospital to go into lockdown.
U.S. District Judge Kristi DuBose sentenced Ronald George
Thompson Jr. on Friday to three years and 10 months, and expressed
dismay over testimony from a representative of an online school in
Georgia who said she would still hire the defendant if she could.
Nan Cullins, who runs Ablaze Academy in St. Marys, Ga.,
testified that Thompson volunteered at her school in 2007, then got
a paid position even though she was aware of his criminal history.
Cullins said her opinion of Thompson was unchanged by his guilty
plea in March to making a bomb threat. She said Thompson would not
work directly with students if hired again.
