Accused cop killer Richard Hollingsworth will not get out of jail before his trial.
The 18-year-old made his first court appearance Friday morning. Judge Hardesty denied Hollingsworth bond. Prosecutors argued Hollingsworth is a flight risk, pointing out that he was arrested when he crashed during a police chase.
Hollingsworth is charged with capital murder. Mobile police say he shot and killed Officer Brandon Sigler Tuesday night at the Tyler Ridge Apartments in West Mobile. Friday in court, prosecutors revealed the stolen gun Hollingsworth used was stolen from Mobile County Sheriff's Deputy Frank Cassidy.
Hollingsworth, who was crying as he entered the courtroom, also plead not guilty.
News 5 has learned Hollingsworth did have a juvenile record and was out on probation at the time of the shooting.
Hollingsworth went to Baker High School but did not earn a diploma from there. According to his attorney, Hollingsworth dropped out in the 12th grade and got his GED.
News 5's Tiffany Craig was at Government Plaza for the bond hearing. She'll have all the details tonight on News 5 at 5:00 and 6:00.
