Courtesy Cops At Apartment Complexes

Mobile Police say Brandon Sigler was one of dozens of others on the force working as a Courtesy Officer.

Cindy Babin with Autumn Woods Apartments says their officer began in May. She says the officer's responsibilities include making sure doors are locked and keeping the noise level down. Some apartments reduce their officer's rent in exchange for their services. Mobile Police say the job is after hours but the protection is always in the name of the law.

"When you become a police officer you're a police officer all the time whether or not you're actually working here or off the clock, you're still an officer,"Said Christopher Levy, a spokesman for Mobile Police. "The response time is the biggest thing Ibelieve for us because I can immediately have someone down here to take care of my situation,"Said Babin.

Mobile Police officers must submit an application with the police department in order to become a Courtesy Officer.
