BREAKING NEWS Police say Brandon Sigler was shot by a teenager in the parking lot of the West Mobile apartment complex where he lived.

12:07 p.m.
Richard Hollingsworth said he didn't know Brandon Sigler was a police officer because he wasn't wearing a badge.

"I'm so sorry. I'll never be able to say it enough."

Mobile police are transporting Hollingsworth to the Baldwin County Jail in Bay Minette because Sigler's mother works at Mobile Metro Jail.

Hollingsworth, who is also charged with marijuana possession, had one thing to say as he was put into the back of a police car. "Ya'll pray for me."

Two other people who were detained for questioning have been released.

10:00 a.m.
Mobile police have arrested 18-year-old Richard Hollingsworth for the murder of Officer Brandon Sigler.

5:44 a.m.
According to his aunt, Officer Brandon Sigler was 26 years old. He graduated from Murphy High School in 2001 and went on to play football for three years at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. Sigler graduated in 2006 from Faulkner University in Montgomery with a degree in Criminal Justice. He was supposed to close on a new home Monday and get married in September.

On a social networking website, Sigler said he joined the force in June 2007.

On June 2, 2009 at approximately 11:30 PM Mobile Police received a report that an officer had been shot at the Tyler Ridge Apartments located at 7700 block of Thomas Road. Upon officers arrival they discovered Mobile Police Officer Brandon Sigler with an apparent gunshot wound. Sigler was transported to Providence Hospital were he was later pronounced deceased. Approximately thirty minutes following the incident at the apartments, patrol officers received information of a possible vehicle description and observed a vehicle matching that description in the area of McFarland Road. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and following a short pursuit, the driver would eventually wreck the vehicle at McFarland Road and Dawes Road. A male was taken into custody and a female in the vehicle sustained minor injuries. The female was transported to USA Medical Center by Life Flight. A Third possible suspect was identified and apprehended in the area of Hamilton Creek.

Detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. Investigators have been able to determine that Officer Sigler was not on duty at the time of the incident and he is the courtesy officer at the apartments. Investigators determined Officer Sigler was addressing a disorderly incident in the parking lot of the complex when the incident occurred. Two subjects were transported to Mobile Police Headquarters to be interviewed by detectives, and the female will be interviewed following release from the hospital. This will be an ongoing investigation and information will be provided as soon as it is available.

4:09 a.m.
A family member tells News 5 that Office Sigler was supposed to get married in September. She also says he was a star athlete in college. His mother works for the Mobile County Sheriff's Office.

1:54 a.m.
A Mobile Police Officer was shot and killed late Tuesday night at a West Mobile apartment complex. According to police, Officer Brandon Sigler was shot at Tyler Ridge Apartments on Thomas Road. Officer Sigler lived at the complex and was off-duty at the time.

According to MPD Public Information Officer Christopher Levy, Officer Sigler was responding to a disorderly situation in the parking lot when he was shot around 11:30pm. He was taken to Providence Hospital. It's unclear if Officer Sigler died at the hospital or on the way to the hospital.

About twenty minutes after the shooting, police spotted a vehicle on Dawes Road that matched the description of a vehicle that left the scene of the shooting. A short pursuit followed and the vehicle wrecked. One person was taken to the hospital by helicopter. One person was taken into custody at the accident scene. Another person was taken into custody near Hamilton Creek.
