MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Democrat John Tyson Jr. has ruled out
another bid for attorney general, saying he will seek re-election
as Mobile County district attorney.
Tyson said Monday he has work to finish in the prosecutor's
office and it's in the "best interest" of his family to remain in
Mobile.
Several Democrats have expressed interest in running for AG in
2010, but none have declared.
On the Republican side, incumbent Troy King and Birmingham
lawyer Luther Strange, who ran for lieutenant governor in 2006, are
running.
King defeated Tyson in the 2006 election.
Monday was the first day that candidates for statewide office,
including attorney general, could begin raising campaign funds.
