Emergency management officials in the Florida panhandle hold "live action" hurricane exercise

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Hurricane Suiter left a trail of destruction in South Florida. Now, the storm is tracking across the Gulf of Mexico on a collision course with Pensacola.

Suiter isn't real, but the action here at the Escambia County Emergency Operations Center is. This is a county-wide hurricane exercise and more than 100 public safety officials and first responders have their hands full.

"It gets everybody in the mood, gets everybody in the beat of what could happen when things happen," says John Dosh with Escambia County E.M.A. "Communication is probably the most important thing we do, working together, making sure we're all responding together as a unit."

These men and women dusted off their disaster response manuals and emergency preparedness guides hoping team work and unity can save property and lives.
