AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Some Texas librarians are shrugging off that mild-mannered stereotype -- along with some of their clothes -- all in the name of disaster relief.
Photos of the skin-baring and tattooed ladies appear in a new calendar aimed at raising money to repair libraries damaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
One librarian (Shawne Miksa) calls it a way to get people to notice library issues. As the model for November 2010, people can notice the Chinese characters on her lower back that mean "wisdom" and "desire."
The Texas Library Association says libraries thrive on promoting diversity and free expression and the "Tattooed Ladies" calendar shows off that spirit.
