Sit, Stay, Read!

Sit, Stay, Read!

Some local dogs are "training" children to become better readers.

Some local children are becoming better readers, thanks to some well-trained dogs. The Sit, Stay, Read program kicked off earlier this summer at the Robertsdale, and Daphne public libraries. The goal is to make children more comfortable reading aloud. The dogs offer a few slobbery licks of encouragement to the children while the kids read their favorite stories. The children reward the dogs with treats!

The Sit, Stay, Read program takes place at the Daphne public library on Fridays from 2-3PM, and the Robertsdale public library on Tuesdays from 2-3PM. It's free, but call the library in advance to let them know if your child would like to attend.

The program is looking for more volunteers and dogs. The dogs have to be trained to the AKC standards. To learn more about Sit, Stay, Read, click here.
