Panya Holmes was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and charged with domestic violence. Animal cruelty charges could be on the way.
Ingrid says Panya used to spend hours in the yard with the chickens, roosters and hens. She says he paid about 200 dollars a week on food for them and spent 25,000 dollars to buy and raise the birds.
On Tuesday, Mobile County humane officers were called to their home on Southern Oaks Trail. They rescued 118 birds from the backyard. They also found ten dead birds and believe another 50 are roaming around the neighborhood.
Humane officers say when found the birds, they had no food or water and were feeding on the other dead birds in the yard. Officials also found cockfighting paraphernalia inside the house.
Ingrid says she moved out months ago and is filing for divorce. She says that she doesn't know what happened after she left but those birds were her husband's pride and joy. If her husband was fighting the birds, Ingrid claims that she never saw it.
Ingrid admits that there was violence *inside* the house and she was the victim. She paused, looked in the backyard and exclaimed, "He loved those birds more than he loved me."
