Mobile Getting Millions To Hire More Police Officers

Vice President Joe Biden announced Tuesday that Mobile is getting $2.5 million in federal stimulus money to hire 20 more officers.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama cities and counties are getting
enough federal stimulus money to hire 114 police officers.
Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder
announced the law enforcement grants for all 50 states Tuesday. The
grants will employ more than 1,000 officers nationwide for three
years.
Huntsville is getting $2.6 million to employ 15 officers. Mobile
is receiving nearly $2.5 million for 20 officers. Tuscaloosa is
getting more than $2 million for a dozen officers.
Three cities were awarded grants for five officers. Decatur and
Bessemer are receiving more than $700,000 each and Florence is
getting about $622,000.
The other Alabama grants were for less than five officers each.
