Back to school shopping is hitting some parents a little deeper in the pocket this year.
Zoghby's school uniform store has had more lay-away requests than ever before.

The owner scaled back on supplies in anticipation of a smaller crowd this year due to the down economy.
many are struggling to meet school uniform requirements with less than 3 weeks until the start of the school year.
"We have a lay away program which 50 percent down and we hold it until school starts. People can actually start as soon as May and we'll hold it until school begins,"Said Eileen Zoghby, the store owner.

You can save money on school supplies if you wait until next week to buy them. Alabama's sales tax holiday starts Friday, August 7th.
Shoppers can buy certain school supplies, computers and clothing free of state sales tax.
The holiday ends at midnight Sunday, August 9th.
