MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State legislators are calling for an
investigation and review of personnel practices since learning that
a Statehouse employee kept his job for nearly two years after he
was questioned about leaving marijuana and drug paraphernalia in
one of their offices.
Lawmakers also say they want to know why they were not informed
of the incident involving maintenance worker Lorenza Hooks for
years and wonder if a cover up and more people were involved.
State Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, said he believes drugs
were being provided to "some high level people in the House of
Representatives."
The drugs were found in a backpack in former state Rep. Bobby
Humphryes' office in December 2006. Hooks admitted that the
backpack was his, but said the drugs and drug paraphernalia were
not.
The Montgomery Advertiser reported on the events in Sunday
editions.
