Workers at the Mobile County Animal Shelter continue plugging away to find dogs and cats a good home. The new shelter on Howells Ferry Road held its third monthly Saturday adoption today, July 18, 2009. Organizers say they've been able to adopt about 30 pets thanks to the special hours. They say they wanted to open occasionally on the weekend because weekday hours don't necessarily work for everyone. Even though the number of adoptions has slowed, the coordinator says each one is a success.

“Because any animal you adopt from the Mobile county animal shelter you're saving a life, sometimes we're overwhelmed with the number of dogs that we receive,” says Adoption Coordinator LaTonya Matthews. Matthews says they want to find as many good homes for pets as possible. She says they're not sure if they'll do a Saturday adoption next month because of the start of school.
